El camino a la utopía es la utopía | the path to utopia is utopia [poema cero de abril/Zero poem for April]

1
El camino
a la utopía
es la utopía
2
hoy celebraban
a césar e. chávez
y los campesinos seguían trabajando
bajo un sol de machetes
nadie los celebró a ellos

3
hoy dos campesinos
cercas de riverbank
con azadones
estaban limpiando
una labor de fresas
un hombre
y una mujer
dos campesin@s
caminando, cabeza agachada
en un mar verde
que se mecía
con olas de viento empolvado

4
los zurcos
son las tumbas
más suaves
del mundo
allí enterramos semillas y sudor
y luego cuando
germinan
crecen
brotan
y se estiran hacia el cielo
con nuestras manos
las piscamos
y nos comemos
nuestros muertos hechos de
fresas
cebollas
chiles
chícharo
tomates
frijoles
sandía
calabacita
maíz
tierra
agua
sol

el camino
a la utopía
es la utopía...

The road to utopia is utopia
1
The road
to utopia
is utopia
2
Today they are celebrating
César E. Chávez
and the farmworkers do not stop working
underneath a sun of machetes
no one is celebrating them

3
today two farmworkers
close to Riverbank
swinging hoes with their hands
were cleaning
a field of strawberries
a man
and a woman
two farmworkers
walking, their heads bent down
in a sea of green
that swayed
under waves of dusty wind

4
the rows
were the softest
graves
of the world
there we bury seeds and sweat
and then when
they germinate
crecen
bloom
and reach for the sky
with our hands
we harvest them
and we eat
our dead made of
strawberries
onions
chiles
peas
tomates
beans
watermelon
squash
maize
soil
water
sun

5
the road
to utopia
is utopia ...

my status is Palestine

My status is Palestine
There are no walls between our lands, our skins, our hearts
Palestine is the horizon of humanity
I am Palestine
I am nomad on the longest walk to return to her
Palestine: either we are all free or we are all fucked.
Hold my hand
Hold my body
Hold my head
Hold my tears
From your bed to the workplace
From the long-distance phone calls to your voice
Hold me Palestine
Her first name is love
Her last name is peace
She will hold me
For she is Palestine
The land is Palestine
The sea is Palestine
The sky is Palestine
The moon is Palestine
The sun is Palestine
And

wherever I stand
wherever I dream
wherever I cry
wherever I love
wherever I live and die
Palestine

My status, write it down, is Palestine ...

arnoldo garcía: soledades

I cannot possess you
anymore than you can possess
the wind, the water, the land
And I will never possess you or the land
Yet all I want is to be buried in you
So that you can possess me
Turning me into
a flurry of wind
dust across your watery back
a muddy caress of your feet...

arnoldo garcia: I want to share the moon with you...

I want to share the moon with you...
holy bread
pale burnt tortilla
pock-marked face
rotting mirror
antarctic slip
wounded smile
loudspeaker of suns
disposable tambourine
frying cymbal
griddled plane
ingestable hands

I want to cut my wrists with the moon...
so all the oceans will come gushing out
becoming impotent crayons and a scar of dark matter
on either tear ducts of your sex

I want to become the moon
transplanet
translucent serpent
transitive kiss
fugitive son
the library of all memories
a bed of erotic servitude
a coyote of sadness
a minstrellated lung
the cyclical war
of time and menses

I give you the moon
a pact of dusks to hold you
an endless unforgetting
shells, caracoles, topographies of soul
my effigy-tongue
to burn as an offering to castigate the men

I make you the moon
a quilt of contradictions
a multilingual kiss
where the sun snipped
the umbilical chord of swallows
drowning your grief with her laughter
strumming the curves of the water
the clan of your eclipse
putting down the rabid sun
the reader of my calloused palms

Primero de Mayo | May 1 | the international movement

Add to Technorati Favorites

The working class
That international beast of capitalist burden
Used to count the light, the wrinkled skin of stars and cosmos
Now we’re trapped in the industrial smokestack's web of disaster
We used to be Indians, most of us at least.
We donned silk-screened t-shirts with the crocodile trademark over our huipiles
We interspersed the language of money in the crust of our souls,
Banning the sun from the count of human time.

We are in trouble:
Are we workers or are we humans
Are we sons and daughters of the land or is the land dispossessed of the dispossessed
Are we on street-corners waiting for work or are we on the cosmic pilgrimage
to honor Lucy, our first mother, returning the first kiss with the first humanity to be

Dos

Veinte girasoles
Veinte fuerzas

If I were human | day one poetry month

If I were human
I would be a woman
Whose fists would be tenderness filled with thorns.
I would worry about nothing except my daughters

I would love freely
The man who would make me laugh at philosophy
The man who would not hurt ants or my tears.

If I were human
I wouldn't fear unemployment
I wouldn't fear the distance that keeps me from her
I wouldn't fear anything except not being able to love
in the rain of winters without hope

If I were human
You would be happy, more fearless than you already are
You would be able to live
where the sun sets & rises without losing your place.

You would say:
Your wrinkled skin,
your battered lungs do not matter
Only that your heart pounds in my hands
Only that your smile is a machete to wield against my darkness
That your scars are the DNA of my pleasure

If I were human
Utopia would be now
Wherever we go,
wherever we are...

[Poema 29] Ellas son nosotras | We are the ancestors

Our ancestors gave life
to our great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandmothers and grandfathers
so that we would remember
our future as great-great-great-great-great-great-great granddaughters and sons
great-great-great-great-great-great-great descendants

We fly from
one side of the continent
to the other.
We fly from América to Africa
in less than one day.
This is nothing.

Our great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandmothers and grandfathers
walked for 150,000 years
holding us
feeding us
loving us
protecting us
from the great dangers
of forgetfulness
of oblivion
of extermination
of love without the beloved.

Will we walk another 150,000 years
so that our great-great-great-great-great-great-great descendants
will continue on the longest walk
of all their great-great-great-great-great-great-great ancestors?

[Poema 23] El humano que no fue fotografiado

caballo loco
caballo loco
la locura de tu libertad
la locura de tu caballo indomitable
no hay
ni nunca habrá
una cámara
fotográfica
digital
de filme
para capturar a tu espíritu de insistencia
la tecnología de la sociedad industrial
no puede contigo
surges y re-surges
insurrecto
enmascarado en Chiapas
vendedor ambulante de frutas en Nueva York
en las montañas de Cuba
en los arrozales vietnamitas
encarcelado con Peltier
piscando uvas en el valle imperial
en la Lacandona
tienes tus hermanas y hermanos dispersos
todos caballos locos
un movimiento de caballos locos
galapando sobre lluvias y ciudades
con una bandera de relámpagos
no hay cámara
fotográfica
digital
de filme
ni prisión dentro de una prisión
para caputarar a tu cuerpo
para encarcelar a tu espíritu rojo

caballo loco,
te veo borracho en las calles
cara hinchada
cabello sucio
enredado en saliva, sudor, lodo y amargura

caballo loco

rogabas
que me tomes una fotografía
te pago munchos pesos
y luego pedías disculpas
porque andabas borracho
y tu papá te había dejado
y no sabías cuando retornarías
ni cuando llegarías a tu casa
Me es urgente, me rogabas
con esa garganta de sueños
ahogados en las aguas del olvido
caballo loco
no quería tomarte tu fotografía
por respeto a tu polvo
y viento de insistencias
me es urgente, gritaba tu espíritu
y clic!
no te capturé/imagen de semilla
explosiva
te tomé la foto
para cargar tu espíritu
una arma más
de mi resistencia
ahora me es urgente
relevarte
para que nosotros juntos podamos
rebelarnos

caballo loco
caballo loco
la historia te traiciona

caballo loco
caballo loco
caballo instantáneo
locura delirante e indomable
relinche de la revelación
caballo adomador de humanos
locura para humanizar a la humanidad
caballo sol
caballlo luna
caballo tierra
locura, luz y labios
para crear gritos, relinchos de la naturaleza
caballo loco de las sombras
con soles bajo tus pies voladores
explotas lomas negras
que gestan pueblos y estrellas
te desempuño de heridas asesinas
te sano con llamaradas
te alzo con el tambor
eres la sonrisa comuna de la resistencia

caballo loco
caballo loco
no en blanco y negro
sí en carne y hueso
no en papel-espejo
sí en piel-ternura
no en archivo
sí en la lengua
no en referencia histórica
sí caminando en auroras
no antepasado
sí entre nosotras y nosotros
sí cabello larguísimo
donde viven todas las generaciones
en el viento de tus manos
caballo loco de la liberación natural

[Poema 14] Estas manos

Estas manos
nacieron
entre las huertas
haciendo las manzanas más rojas
haciendo los duraznos más jugosos
haciendo a los árboles más macizos
Las cerezas sudando entre mis manos
su dulzura
para tus labios
que se besan por mis manos

Las ramas son espadas
que punzan al sol
Las hojas las pestañas verdes
de la sombra
el campesino
hace
la primavera nuestra
la campesina
desdobla de su cintura
la verdura de tu mirada
entre los tres
la tierra nace
otra vez
despertando semillas
entre los zurcos
de nuestras manos.
Empezamos el largo camino
para acostarnos juntos,
tapándonos con las colchas blancas
del invierno
soñando lo que la primavera hace
con nosotros
después del trabajo
después de todo.

Pueblos emplumados

Add to Technorati Favorites

Arnoldo García

Pueblos emplumados

Voy a cantar la historia
de nuestro pueblo sin tierra
Que dolor éramos indios
con toda una geografía

Nos arrebataron el suelo
nos deplazaron del cielo
para explotar a la tierra
y de privarnos de ancestros

Los indios arrodillados
los horizontes sin cantos
nos expulsan a fuerza
haciéndonos extranjeros
en nuestras tierra ancianas

En esta caminata
atravesando desiertosd
cultivando labores
no olvidamos las raíces

Somos los pueblos obreros
Desde mesoamérica
a las calles y esquinas
trabajamos contra las sombras
desprecios, maldiciones
y fregones explotadores

Para recuperar la tierra
volver a ser pueblo emplumado
Sembradores descalzos

Me gusta cantarle al viento
porque vuelan mis cantares

Mis plumas son los cantos
de mi puebli
cortando y cosiendo las heridas
del viento

*

La revolución emplumada
es la revolución humana
es volver volver volver!
a las raíces de la tierra
a las raíces del agua
a las raíces del viento
a las raíces del cielo
para volver volver volver!

Con los pies enlodados de humanidad
con los pulmones llenos de estrellas
y la sangre derramando soles.

*

*

Neither Spanish nor English
will serve to break us out of this jail called empire
El inglés el español los tenemos
que echar de nuestra lengua
desenraizarlos deslambrarnos
uproot upend unwire unlock
In english you can love cars
and not the homeless
En español te pueden gustar
los carros y no los ancianos
How can English free us?
Como podemos liberarnos
con el español?

"Land, like language," dice Mahmoud Darwish
"is inherited."

Heredé un inglés mochado un español pocho
Una tierra cercada, envenenada, un code switching para evitar el castigo
Construí paredes que muy poso quieren cruzar
Heredé una tierra perdida,
una tierra envenenada, sorda,
casi muda,
que tatarea cantos en el viento
lee labios como zurcos
Pierde conciencia,
se desmaya
mi tierra
en mi lengua

*

Molting
feathers
painted
tongue
ready
to bury
the invaders
the occupiers
the colonial settlers
the imperial national guard
the anti-dog soldiers
the gas guzzlers
they have us
plucking chicken
speed-up's
carpel tunnel
repetitive
global assembly-line
stress
when will we bury the pestilence?

*

Ah
farmworkers
we believe
the land
is trembling with cold
so we cover her
in quilts of crops
canals to anchor her soul
at night when she dreams
and will not be thirsty
patches of green yello black
red flowers, maize, potatoes,
beans, berries, apples, squash,
pumpkin, we cover her
so she is not cold
in the winter of our trails and tribulations
ah, migrant land workers
we make the land by walking
we make the land warm with our sweat
we make the land ours
embraced by hands, seeds, roots
and walks
we make the land ours with our work.

*

Where is our land
what happened to our seeds
why does my grandfather
plow with clouds
How did we get this way
plucking chickens, dismembering cows
processing apples, laughing drunk,
stuttering as if the dust did not speak
for us
My grandfather always reminded me
that the strongest deity, the most
powerful force in the natural world
were the clouds
The clouds carried rain, sunlight and our ancestors
on their backs.
The clouds, he said,
could blind you in fog or burst
you in rain and sunlight
He especially warned us of the serpent cloud
that zig-zagged its belly on the sky
descending on rivers and lakes
to drink water, quench
its journey.
(My grandfather, of course,
came from the place of clouds,
he was a son of the cloud people.)
Now his cloud people are no match
for the mushroom cloud
The serpent cloud hides in the stratosphere
afraid to drink the water
humans have dammed and made
Jetplanes slice with their turbines
the clouds,
no respect for their pilgrimages
between suns, rains, people,
Their only sorrow is not being able to connect
us once again.
The army of clouds only weapon are raindrops,
winds, the kiss between dirt and sky called lightning,
thunder. She does bit
march her armies, they walk, glide,
dance, rest on their backs,
looking down at humans
trying to see them as clouds, funny clouds,
serpent clouds, galloping to work
on the highway commute.
The clouds are perfect guerrillas
we slash them with our jet-wings
they envelope us, overwhelm us
make our landing instruments obsolete
We can't hear their demands:
stay out of my way,
get out of my body,
stay down there,
take care of your roots,
plug the smokestacks,
stop the carbon monoxide,
plug the tailpipes,
leave the rivers alone,
tear down the damns,
smash the human borders
that imperil
all clouds,
all cloud people,
all living beings
all of us.

*

"The universe is not made up of atoms," declared Muriel Rukeseyer, "It is made of stories."

When my story ends
she ends in the big bang
the big bang pounds on the drum
of my tongue
spitting and vibrating atom-stories, atom-words, atom-exclamation points
putting together molecules
onto paper, bark, howling waves
under the moon
the comal where I toast
my bread, my maize, my stories

*

Don't be afraid
of how I pray to my gods
Don't be afraid
of my prayers
don't be afraid
of those who believe
in different ways
to yours
Don't be afraid
of the reverent
of a god
you do't recognize
Don't be afraid
of how I pray
to our gods
but be very afraid
of my gods
be very afraid.

*

I invented English
so that my family
would not be mute, not hungry
I learned English
because Spanish
was beat out
of me.
My grandfather
learned Spanish
because Purépecha
was beat out
of him
Then I forgot
English because
I was kept out
of Purépecha
The I forgot Spanish
because English
drowned me

I vist my prison languages
every day
taking them out from behind the bars
one word at a time
one syllable at a time
My tongue will be free
My English'My spanish
My Purépecha
a cosmos for my next dream
of no jails no boundaries
no one telling me
not to talk.

*

Quetzalcoátl
jumps into the iron foundry fire
to save the world, the people
from the industrial smokestack cycle
of wars
Quetzalcoátl returns
as an urban pigeon
ill, can't fly, picks through the garbage
or waits for bread crumbs
from the homeless, Quetzal-
coátl's people
pigeoncoátl, snake-rat with wings
jumps into the smog
so that we are safe, reborn

*

The wobblies

Traversing the dust of my self,
my ancestors, my future seed
I claim the earth
I claim the spin
I claim the sun
I claim infinity
not for my self
but for her self
for earth
for the wobbling
for the sun
for space
have their own self-determination
as I have mine
because I am their offspring.

*

Todo
será
emplumado
o todo
será
destrozado:
vuelo
polvo
nubes
cuerpos
lenguas
lenguajes
serpientes
pájaros
tu sexo
tu amor
unión
de
tierras y cielos
abrazos y despedidas
auroras y desvelos
palabras y lodos
mujer y hombre
jotos y jotas
transversos humanos
voladores y arrastrados
espacios infinitos
encarcelados humanos
todo será emplumado
toda será emplumada
Dos, tres seres en mí en tí
